We’ve spend some time digging up some of our old records and now have a limited number of all the old TGU CD singles made for Nation available for, as far as we know, the first time online!
Meanwhile various members of TGU contributed to tracks on a new project out on Real World, produced by Simon Emmerson of Afro Celts. The Imagined Village is a new look at English folk music fusing fiddles and squeezebox with dub beats and sitars. To do so it has gathered an extraordinary array of talent: Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Sheila Chandra, Billy Bragg, Paul Weller, Tunng, Transglobal Underground and Benjamin Zephaniah among others. They’ve just finished a sell-out tour of the UK on which Sheema from TGU guested on sitar.
Also out now, from Turkey, is the compliation ‘Doublemoon Remixed from the excellent Istanbul Doublemoon label featuring remixes by label artists such as Mercan Dede, Burcan Ohal and Baba Zula by a whole bunch of DJs and performers, TGU amongst them.
No live shows booked right now except for an appearance in the open air in Edinburgh on New Years Eve….bring warm coats and a fire!
